Outline
Silicon RTV products are future industrial materials with high quality. Used in variety of fields from small models to electronics, automobiles, aircrafts, etc.

What is RTV?
Silicon RTV stands for ROOM TEMPERATURE VULCANIZING usually referring to liquid silicon rubber. RTV is categorized into two groups: RTV-1 is a one component, stored in an airtight container (tube, cartridge and other metal containers) which can be used instantly. RTV-2 is a two component, where you have to mix the base and hardener right before use.

One-component or RTV-1 cures directly when exposed to air. Their main qualities being adhesion, elasticity, durability, and weathering resistance (can stand temperatures from 50-200¡É), they provide high-performance solution to sealing and bonding application. In addition, they are used for bonding and sealing in electro-technical appliance applications. They are also widely used in electronics, home appliances and other transportation industries fir bonding, sealing, coating and more. When hardening a by-product is produced and depending on the cross-linking product used, RTV-1 can be further classified.

RTV-2 is a two component products which is used after mixing the base and hardener. Their low surface tension enables good reproduction of surface details. According to its hardening mechanism it can be divided into condensation cure type and additional cure type. Compared to the one component type, condensation cure type is less adhesive, highly dependent and sclerotic. The reaction of the additional cure type can be controlled by heat and inhibitors. Thus, this is widely used in various technical parts for industry. Its not adhesive but can be reformed with primers or supplements. When hardening, water is not necessary, is highly sclerotic with no by-products making it safer. RTV-2 has all the basic characteristics of silicon as weathering resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance improving quality and production in variety of fields. RTV-2 is mainly used as insulation or potting material for electric & electronic machines, vacuum casting and other figurines and decorative objects.

  • Condensation Cure Type

Like the one component, Condensation Cure type is a condensation of silicide containing silane and hydrolysis. However, alkoxide and silane are used as cross-linking agents where water & catalysts are also needed. Because hydrolysis of ethyl, propylene silicate, carbon-like alkoxy silane, etc is used, its by-product is alcohol. Condensation Cure products are characterized by high tear strength and elasticity. Together with a very good formability, detailed reproduction is possible. Also, they¡¯re easy to handle, are independent and are stable in high temperatures. There are products as SS1000 and SS1500.

  • Addition Cure Type

Addition Cure type hardening occurs by cross-linking siloxane, through the reactions of vinyl group polysiloxane and Si-H polysiloxane using platinum catalysts. Addition Cure products provide high elasticity, is independent, easy to handle, and are stable in high temperature. There are products as the SL2000 and SL2500. In addition, SL3000 is used as insulation or potting material for electric & electronic machines.
